Yuri Poghosian

Graduated from the Yerevan Conservatory as a violinist. Later he finished his post-graduate studies with Prof. H. Bogdanian at the same conservatory. Since 1963 he has been a member of the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra and its concertmaster since 1968. His professionalism has been highly acclaimed by many foreign and local conductors and soloists performing with the APO. He has given numerous recitals. He has performed Bach's sonatas and partite for violin solo, entire cycles of 24 caprices by Paganini.

He has played Mozart's (No. 4,5), Mendelssohn's, Tchaikovsky's, Veniavsky's (No. 1), Glazunov's, Shostakovich's (No. 1) and many other concerts with the APO. He has also conducted the APO performing Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Dvorack, Bartok, Stravinsky, Khachaturian, Teodorakis and many others. Yu. Poghosian is the founder of the Ensemble of Soloists of the APO. The ensemble has premiered many chamber works of Armenian composers. Yu. Poghosian used to be Professor of conducting at the Komitas Conservatory and Professor of violin at the R. Melikian Music School.
